The Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (TAMFT) recently named Dr. Sofia Georgiadou its 2024 Professor of the Year.

The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology professor, who also serves as an assistant professor of family therapy at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s (UHCL) College of Human Sciences and Humanities, wasnominated for the award by students from UHCL’s Family Therapy program.

“This was my first professional academic award in the 17 years I have been in the U.S., aside from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship I received for my master’s studies,” Georgiadou said.

“Knowing that this award came to me, thanks to nominations from students in our program made it even more meaningful. Their appreciation for all my hard work and efforts to teach them well and promote our Family Therapy program is the highest form of recognition.”

TAMFT’s Professor of the Year Award is presented annually to a professor who has shown excellence in guiding students toward high standards of care for future practice in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. The winner is someone who has demonstrated dedication in contributing to research relevant to the field, while also showing a passion for teaching, taking an interest in their students as both people and as clinicians.

Georgiadou received the award at the TAMFT Annual Awards ceremony luncheon in April.
